Introductions

Welcome to my website and blog to introduce my work and interests.

My name is Dr Tristan Pryer and currently I am a Reader at the University of Bath. Primarily my research is centred around Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing. I have been focused on a variety of applications for this from modelling water curtains and finding the optimum flow rates to maintain a solid block of water to trying to create software that will help predict catastrophic landslides in countries such as Brazil.

I have also been active in areas of outreach as I enjoy working with learners of all ages and getting them excited and interested in STEM topics. Most recently I delivered a session for the Royal Institute Maths Masterclasses for the Bath series on Hydraulic Jumps, for which I created a model to help learners to visualise the problem. I enjoy getting my hands dirty and making things as I realise this is sometimes the best way to communicate complex ideas to a novice audience.

Why am I blogging about my activities?

  • To explain what I do to future students who might be interested in working with me.
  • To help potential collaborators find my work and how to contact me.
  • To open a dialogue about areas of interest that others might want to share

So if you think you might be interested in working with me in some capacity head over to the contacts page and drop me a line.
